Why is vic mignogna a jerk

Rachel says she did not report the incident to hotel management or to the police because she feared Mignogna would attempt to negatively impact her career. According to the guest services manager and Rachel, in apparent retaliation after his sexual advances were rebuffed, Mignogna requested that Rachel be moved to another room for their previously scheduled joint autograph signing session Mignogna denied doing this.

Rachel said she spent the two-hour session alone, as most fans were there to see him. Voice actor Gretchen not her real name described to io9 how, before their first panel together at a con in the early s, he grabbed her from behind and starting tickling her aggressively until she screamed at him to stop.

In professional cosplayer Diana not her real name attended what she believed was a post-convention group dinner for con guests; however, when she arrived she found it was a private dinner with Mignogna. After dinner, Mignogna walked with her to a parking area. She claims he proceeded to grab and kiss her aggressively—without her consent—before inviting her to his hotel room. Diana said she refused, reminding him that she had a partner and knew he was engaged at the time.

She proceeded to walk away to meet with friends at a nearby hotel, one that Mignogna was also staying at. He followed. The man has no boundaries. There are countless photos available online—including through the hashtags KickVic , which has shared accusations against the voice actor, and IStandWithVic , which later emerged as a show of support.

The photos show him hugging people, holding them in his arms, pressing his face against theirs, kissing them on the cheek. Some fans remark on their experiences with Mignogna positively and have been sharing their photos and stories in support of him.

Others call their encounters with him uncomfortable and nonconsensual. I remember when he did it, I felt frozen for a second, and then felt my face turning really red in embarrassment. Convention staffers also discussed their own Mignogna interactions with io9.

Over the past several years, especially following the success of Fullmetal Alchemist in , Mignogna has cultivated a devoted fanbase online.

But there is an official Facebook page with about 5, subscribers, as well as a closed Facebook group for the Risembool Rangers with nearly 1, members. One former Risembool Rangers member, Dave not his real name , joined the group back in when he was around 11 years old. Still, he stayed because he was a big fan of Mignogna and an aspiring voice actor. He left the group shortly after meeting Mignogna, saying he no longer considered himself a fan after their encounter.

While taking a photo together at a convention in , Dave said Mignogna unexpectedly grabbed him around the waist, pulled him close, and asked if he had a boyfriend. At the time, Dave was 14 years old and presented as a young woman.

I love anime, and I legitimately cannot watch dubs with his voice in them. We cannot let them turn us against each other. I swear, when this is over I will do everything I can to try to reunite this community. I hope that you will be by my side. Oddly enough, as the date of the case drew near, numerous false stories started to crop up, discrediting Funimation staff. Most famously, Rekeita posted several "leaked" outtakes featuring the Dragon Ball Z actors saying lewd things. Never mind that these outtakes, and others like them, had in fact been available for years at plus panels at conventions.

Rekeita also spread rumors that voice actors Christopher Sabat and Ron Toye one of the people being sued , intending to defame them. The evidence for these claims rarely held up under scrutiny, especially when people close to the matter spoke out. One piece of purported evidence many IStandWithVic supporters cited was an account allegedly given by voice actor Stephanie Nadolny that Sabat harassed and bullied her. The evidence of her accusation came from social media accounts that, Nadolny later confirmed, had been hacked.

That culminated in this statement by Monica Rial. These distractions served only to try and defame those who criticized Mignogna, but didn't disprove anything he was accused of. Neither did these claims support Mignogna's lawsuit. They only hurt more people. All of these claims, one thrown out after the other, were a desperate attempt to bring down Mignogna's accusers. While many fans acted out of a mob mentality, attacking those they felt were "against them," others found way for monetary gain.

Some YouTubers exploited the trending topics to play the Youtube algorithm, much like how YouTubers exploited the hate mob against Brie Larson leading up to the release of Captain Marvel. However, Mignogna, when asked about the fundraising during his deposition , stated he gave "no permission" for Rekeita to create the page. In the days leading up to the Mignogna case, the fan backlash over his firing led to an entire micro-industry of people profiting off of anger, which in turn reinforced the anger fans felt, and offered a direction for these angry fans to direct their anger.

From what I've seen, mind you. But there's enough Ho Yay that I don't think that anyone apart from the creators themselves, perhaps can outright say that Fai is not gay. Again, if you subscribe to the death of the author view, the audience is free to interpret the character for themselves, as is Mignogna, of course. I just feel that explicitly saying Fai is not gay is a weak interpretation, one that doesn't take into account the subtext. As far as I know, there is no textual evidence that Fai is straight.

As far as I know, there is no textual evidence that Fai is gay either. Yes, I did semi-swipe this idea from Abridged Pegasus. In fact, the straight guys in my school act more homosexual than Fai does. Control your rage Katie Remember kids if you say a fictional character you play is straight and don't like homosexual stories you're a "homophobic Bible-thumping asshole". Oh no! I usually hear the opposite: That Vic is the biggest sweetheart ever and that he's an amazing guest at cons, although he sometimes gives the con organizers trouble like throwing impromptu events and running off without telling everyone and showing up for a panel 30 seconds before it was due to start.

That kinda thing. I never heard anyone mention that he's a Fundamentalist to that degree, and I don't doubt that he can be a devoted Christian, but I kind of doubt the "bigoted asshole" part. Good luck finding anyone who's actually met the guy who thinks he isn't awesome.

Find the video on Youtube of him and Romi Paku. It's adorable. I have a feeling that Vic insisting that his characters aren't gay might mean he's at least a little homophobic, and this frankly probably does have something to do with his religion, but I'd say calling him an "asshole" is a bit much.

There are a lot of clips of him speaking at various cons up on You Tube and I've never seen him be anything but kind and generous to his fans and to other voice actors.

Incidentally, that character in particular is one that I'd agree probably isn't gay - Tamaki is probably a bit too straight for his own good, really XD. I usually hear the opposite: That Vic is the biggest sweetheart ever and that he's an amazing guest at cons, although he sometimes gives the con organizers trouble.

From what I hear, it's a case of Single-Issue Wonk although I also remember him getting flack for saying that Edward Elric was actually an "Angry-at-God" Christian instead of an atheist. I know he's not above mocking yaoi fans. I haven't heard any bad things about Vic aside from the Tsubasa fan rage and frankly they can fuck off. Fai in the manga is simply toying with Kurogane, who already has someone he seems to have a steady relationship with Princess Tomoyo and I think the pet names like Kuro-rii and such are just all in good fun.

Plus he stops with the pet names after that one Vic is a cool guy, I'd love to talk with him without one of the Rangers busting in and kissing his feet or freaking out over him about roles other than Tsubasa, Ouran, and FMA he's the Jerk Jock Shingo in Initial D , I'd love to ask what he thinks of the show edited 7th Jul '10 PM by Zeether.

Hell, I'm not a homophobe at all and I still like to see a good Take That! They're just so funny Tamaki is pretty much obviously in love with Haruhi, and obviously chivalrous to other females.

It would be very hard to argue that he's gay or even bisexual. I agree that the hate is a bit too much, but you can't blame some people for going "WTFLOL" when he says that someone like Fai isn't gay. Of course, you can interpret him as being straight, but I think that interpreting him as gay or bisexual is equally valid. Mocking people for having different interpretations as you do isn't very good-spirited at all.

I think this issue's been brought up and discussed before, but probably because this forum is biased towards males a bit more, yuri fans are much more accepted while yaoi fangirls are perceived as strange weirdos who serve as Acceptable Targets. Androcentrism much?
